About this campervan

Small enough to park on a normal street, big enough to live in for a fortnight, Ford’s long-wheelbase campervan, converted by Westfalia, and the one that solves what every other van this size gets wrong: it has a proper plumbed-in toilet.

The layout keeps the kitchen, the living space and the sleeping area genuinely separate, so one person can cook while everyone else stays seated and out of the way, something most vans this size cannot manage. The living and dining area sits front and centre, with swivelling cab seats facing a three-seat bench across the table, and the L-shaped kitchen runs across the rear.

Two proper doubles rather than a compromise: the main bed drops down from the roof, and the living area converts into a second in a couple of minutes. Everything you need is already on board, pans and crockery, gas for the hob, a camping table and chairs, the hookup cable and hose. You bring food and clothes.

Paul checks every hirer's licence and insurance history personally, then walks you through the vehicle at handover for as long as it takes, usually about half an hour for a first-time hirer.

Will your licence cover this van?

Daffy is plated at 3,400kg, which sits within the category B limit, so a standard car licence covers it, whenever you passed your test. Loading beyond the plated weight is an offence and invalidates the insurance.

Because it is a campervan rather than a coachbuilt motorhome, it drives from a car-like position on a Transit Custom base, and sliding doors on both sides make access easy on a campsite pitch.

Hirers must be aged 30 to 75, with no more than two convictions of three points each. Paul runs an online licence check prior to booking and asks for two proofs of address dated within 90 days, which must be submitted no later than 72 hours before the hire date.

Discounts are confirmed when your enquiry is approved. The price in the booking panel does not include them. Cancellation fees are a share of the hire fee; the cancellation insurance offered when you book waives them. If Paul has to cancel, you are offered a similar motorhome or a full refund.

Payment schedule

The first instalment when Paul approves the enquiry, 25%, 50% or the full amount, depending on how far ahead you book.
The remainder on the schedule set when your enquiry is approved, the last instalment falls three weeks before collection.
£1,500 refundable security deposit, paid with the last instalment and refunded once Daffy is back and inspected.
